Hi, Iām Amber.
I am an interdisciplinary artist and designer exploring the collaborative work between people and land; recognizing how we shape and are shaped by a Sense of Place. I incorporate and work with local materials to express the idea that we live in generational layers in Place. My practice explores narrative storytelling through material.
After completing my BFA in ceramics I recently made the move back home to Appalachia after two decades of creative motherhood in Charlotte, NC where I served in a community role of teacher, mentor, and public speaker addressing topics of visual culture, field biology, a Sense of Place, as well as the role of technology and design in education. As I approach my third decade of creative motherhood I am drawing on these experiences to help develop a culturally relevant artistic practice.
I am interested in opportunities to engage with other artists and communities through conversations and projects that address these ideas.
My thinking has been very influenced by the writings Wendell Berry, Makato Fujimura, Lucy Lippard, Annie Dillard, Kathleen Norris, John Piper, and Chaim Potok just to name a few.
